Prof. Joseph Kamuya Maitha

Chairman
Professor Maitha was appointed Chairman of Base Titanium in 2010 and he brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the development of what will be Kenya’s first world class mining project.
Professor Maitha is the current chairman and CEO of African Development and Economic Consultants Ltd. His previous corporate roles have included Chairman of Tiomin Kenya Ltd and East African Portland Cement Company Limited. He has also previously held positions as Chairman of the Lake Basin Development Authority, Director of the Central Bank of Kenya and Professor of Economics at the University of Nairobi.
He is also a member of the following professional bodies; East African Co-operation Forum (Vice Chairman), Kenya Economic Association, Kenya Institute of Management and the Society for International Development.

Andrew King

Director
Andrew is a mining engineer with over 34 years experience in the mineral resources industry. He brings to Base a considerable depth of knowledge and expertise in technical disciplines, including the establishment and listing of new companies on the ASX. Andrew founded and developed Goldstar Resources NL and was instrumental in the successful establishment of Alcyone Resources in 2009. He is also currently Managing Director of Alcyone Resources Ltd.
In addition to experience covering corporate, strategic and operational roles in gold, iron ore, coal and base metals, Andrew also holds qualifications in accounting and financial management. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Tim Carstens
Bcom, ACA
Director
Tim brings a diverse and substantial skill set to the development of Base, having previously held senior executive roles with Perilya Limited, North Limited, Robe River Iron Associates, Iron Ore Company of Canada and St Barbara Mines Limited in operations, strategy, corporate development and finance, both in Australia and overseas. A chartered accountant by profession, he has successfully managed all aspects of business strategy development and implementation, acquisitions and divestments, debt and equity financing, organisational development and operational performance.
Most recently Tim was Executive General Manager – Operations and Development with Perilya Limited with responsibility for all operational and project development activities in the Broken Hill field, comprising two operating mines and three advanced development projects.

Colin Bwye

Director
Colin has over 20 years experience in the mineral sands sector, having commenced his professional career with RGC Mineral Sands (since consolidated into Iluka Resources) as a plant metallurgist in 1988. Most recently he was previously Managing Director of Western Australian mineral sands producer, Doral Mineral Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of Iwatani Corporation of Japan. Colin has an extensive knowledge of all aspects of the mineral sands industry, including downstream processing and marketing of mineral sands products and he has also been integral in bringing a number of development projects into production. Colin was born in Kenya and lived there prior to migrating to Australia in 1987 and so brings a deep understanding of the country and its culture.
Colin will have the primary responsibility for bringing Base Resources’ Kwale Mineral Sands Project in Kenya through development and into operation.

Joe Schwarz
BSc Hons
General Manager
A chemical engineer with 30 years experience in the mining industry, predominantly in Africa, Joe was most recently general manger of Tiomin Kenya Limited. Prior to this he was technical director of Bindura Nickel Corporation in Zimbabwe. In addition to senior operational roles in the Anglo group, he has considerable project development experience mainly in base metals in Southern and Central Africa and South America.
Joe possesses an in-depth knowledge of Kenya, its peoples and culture having grown up and attended school there.
